Don’t forget to mark your calendar! The Sisters Wine & Brew Festival is coming up soon!

“The Sisters Wine & Brew Festival celebrates wonderful wines and brews of the Pacific Northwest. The day will also include live music, wine and beer pairing classes, cooking demos, art vendors, and fantastic food. All against the backdrop of Sisters, Oregon. This western town features fabulous scenery, accommodations, retail and restaurants. Entrance to the festival is free.”

When: Friday June 15 (3pm-9pm) and Saturday June 16th (11am-8pm)

Where: The Village Green in Sisters Oregon

Tasteroom is a proud sponsor for this event and we will have a booth on site to answer any questions you may have about the site. We also expect to have a contest like we have at other events so come on over, say hi and sign up for a FREE tasteroom membership to enter the contest! Already a tasteroom member? Tasteroom News: SIP 2012

Thanks to all those that signed up for a FREE tasteroom membership at SIP (The McMinnville Wine & Food Classic 2012)! We met many great people and hope to attend again next year. We want to do this sort of thing more often so look for our booth at a wine event near you.

Let’s Get Green.
Recycling is a great thing to do but an even better thing to do with those old wine bottles is to ‘up-cycle’ them. Now I am not a big collector of things but, I will tell you, often after a dinner party or get together there is an aray of wine bottles left around. Some are so beautiful you don’t really want to throw them away, but we’re not in college any more here kids and lining our shelves with empty old liquor and wine bottles is a thing of the past. However, there are a bunch of great ways you can up-cycle your favorite wine bottles into a unique piece of art or useful decoration. See some of my favorite re-uses for old wine bottles below and hopefully you will be as inspired as I was!

Drinking Glasses.
How fun are these? This isn’t a project that has to break the bank either. You can get a decent glass cutter for a about 25 bucks over the net and, since you already have a steady stream of those wine bottles, this is an easy, cheap and fun way to create unique handmade gifts and decorations.

Candle Holders.

Spray with a matte finish or chalk board paint and voila a beautiful centerpiece.

Wine Bottle Candle

Cut the bottom off the bottles instead to make these hurricanes.

Tiki Torches.

Simple and easy made with every day supplies you can find in your local hardware store or on hand in your garage.

I hope I have provided you some ideas and inspiration for your own home projects. The possibilities for up-cycling wine bottles is endless and a really great way of going green while saving some of that green as well, yes I’m a word smith…I know.

Wine Event: Portland Seafood & Wine

It’s here again, the Portland Seafood and Wine Festival at the Oregon Convention Center.

The festival begins Friday February 2^nd at 2pm – 10 pm and Saturday from 12 noon – 10pm.

Some of the featured vendors include our favorites Barking Frog with their dessert Syrah and Purple Cow Vineyards. Another one to check out is Zerba Cellars and their Cabernet Franc.

We hope to see you there and please let us know of any local wine happenings in other states you’d like to get the word out for.
